What is your take on excessive parking fees?
A House bill aiming to control the unreasonable parking charges to customers by the establishments who provide enough parking space for a certain period of time. The bill worth reading is authored by the Representative from Valenzuela, Sherwin Gatchalian. Right in the middle of the endless stress and tension because of the price hikes in food, petrol and services, the hope to survive lives on.
It's not the end yet, after all the negative news release, the good side resurfaces in other forms. The House Bill 5099 or much popular for its' title "Parking Fees Regulation Act" promises to lessen the amount of parking charges on top of the base rates that's already giving a kind of concern resulting damages to our budget for the auto expenses that consumes us every month.
The said bill lays its proposed restrictions as grounds on how much the charges should be for the customers.
- Nothing should be charged for the first 3 hours provided that the customers spend at least a thousand bucks for a single visit. (Some establishments require customers to spend at least three thousand bucks for a charge-free parking benefit)
- Nothing should be charged to the customers if they parked their cars not more than 30 minutes in the said parking lot. (Whereas other parking operators already charge you the moment you enter the gates of the parking area)
Here's a good one...
- A forty-peso flat-rate (Php 40) for the first eight hours and additional ten pesos for the succeeding hour. (This is, most probably, the highlight of the bill itself.)
- Parking operators should be held accountable and liable for any untoward incidents including cars being stolen, parked cars getting involved in an accident or have the the customers' belongings stolen inside their cars.
This should sound pretty good for the majority because it's not only aiming for the protection of the car owners but also reducing the growing crime rates involving cars. One more reason to love driving.
So there you go, one good news that's less stressful, less tension and less pressure but let's not be complacent with this yet because we're only going to fully enjoy it once it's been approved and finally becomes a law.
